Restoring Independence and Mobility at Home

Modifications

The Challenge

A couple wanted to improve their daily comfort and independence, particularly to better accommodate one partner who uses a wheelchair, while also reducing the physical strain and time commitment on the spouse as a caregiver.

Our approach focused on identifying high-impact modifications that directly improved quality of life. The result was regained independence for both homeowners and a significantly lighter load for the spouse serving as a caregiver, making daily life feel much more manageable.

Better Rest & Comfort: We helped source and install adjustable beds that offer much better support, maintaining the aesthetic of their original furniture while gaining modern functionality.

Creating Space to Move: We coordinated with specialized contractors to widen key doorways, making it easier to navigate the home in a wheelchair and removing daily obstacles.

A Truly Accessible Bathroom: We served as the homeowner’s advocate, coordinating specialized trade contractors to install a roll-in vanity and a barrier-free shower, transforming a difficult space into one that promotes self-reliance and ease.

All the Little Things: While our partner team was on-site for the larger project, we managed the completion of various minor home repairs to leverage the opportunity of having this resource available.
