The Challenge

An 86-year-old woman living independently was facing the stress of recent falls and unexpected home repairs. She wanted to explore her options for the future while maintaining her independence and safety at home.

Serving as her dedicated home stewards, we implemented a strategy focused on both immediate safety and long-term peace of mind. The result was a profound sense of relief and stability, knowing she could live safely in her own home while developing a clear, empowering plan for the future.

Staying Connected & Safe: We upgraded her iPhone, purchased & configured an Apple Watch with fall detection, changed carriers to address the static on her landline, and renewed her city alarm permit & emergency contacts for her house alarm helping her stay connected and call for help if needed.

Removing Everyday Hazards: We coordinated the installation of discreet safety features, like a hand-held shower head & grab bars that match her decor, applied a non-slip floor treatment in the bathroom and a mini-threshold-ramp at the garage door, to reduce tripping hazards and promote a safer environment in high risk areas.

Taking the Weight Off: From fixing the air conditioning, bathroom shower leaks to replacing batteries in beeping alarms and re-hanging a large piece of artwork that fell, we managed the completion of urgent home maintenance tasks that were causing her unnecessary worry.

Looking Ahead with Confidence: We connected her with a trusted local senior transition advisor who could help her thoughtfully explore potential future Continuing Care Retirement Community options without pressure, while also encouraging an in-home physical therapy fall evaluation so she could make decisions about her next chapter from a position of strength and safety.
